MenuMeters overview
MenuMeters is a set of CPU, memory, disk, and network monitoring tools for Mac OS X. Although there are numerous other programs which do the same thing, none had quite the feature set I was looking for. Most were windows that sat in a corner or on the desktop, which are inevitably obscured by document windows on a PowerBook's small screen. Those monitors which used the menubar mostly used the NSStatusItem API, which has the annoying tendency to totally reorder my menubar on every login.
The MenuMeters monitors are true SystemUIServer plugins (also known as Menu Extras). This means they can be reordered using command-drag and remember their positions in the menubar across logins and restarts.
MenuMeters is open source freeware released under the GNU General Public License version 2.

Version: 2.1.7
For many years and across many generations of Macs, this has been a useful and simple tool for keeping an eye on the state of one’s computer. Thank you for accompanying it across the Golden Gate Bridge.

The program (and its predecessor as a PrefPane) was a useful and reliable companion for many years, but unfortunately, it crashes upon launch in macOS 27.2.

Just reiterating my sub-comment so nobody is confused. MenuMeters works fine with Mac OS Sequoia 15.2 on my M4-pro Macbook Pro. The problem was with Hidden Bar, not MenuMeters. This free app is a cl****ic!

It was a fantastic app for all the years it lasted, however MM 2.1.6.1 does not work for me under MacOS Sequoia 15.2. No meters show up in the menu-bar. The old PrefPanes version was working under Rosetta until I foolishly uninstalled it and I installed the app version. It's a sad day for MenuMeters lovers until a work-around shows up.
